Berton Brown Kelley Cawthorne Empower Partner and Founder I was born in Flint, attend Flint Potter, Whitter, and I am a Graduate of “The” Flint Central Highschool. I am a former little, my biological father died when I was 7, and before my mother remarried she wanted me to have a mentor and a positive male influence, which brought me to Big Brother Big Sisters. I have managed and directed research campaigns, political campaigns, and developed programs in Flint, Michigan for Flint Community Schools, Metro Housing Partnership (Metro Community Partners), and The Genesee Regional Chamber of Commerce. I am the founding member of P.L.U.T.O, a Board Former Member for the Flint Club, Michigan Citizens Action, Greater Flint Arts Council, and a former mentor with Big Brother Big Sister of Flint lunch and learn program. Experience: I served as a Legislative Director and Chief of Staff for members of the State House of Representative: ●Woodrow Stanley, Flint ●Sherry Gay-Dagnogo, Detroit ●John J. Gleason, Flint I served as the, Second Black Lobbyist in the history of Karoub Associates, before starting my own firm (Brown Consulting Group), which is the first majority owned Black Lobbying Firm in Michigan 2020 Accomplishments Highlights: ●State wide appropriations over 15 million dollars in 2020, fiscal cycle. ●State wide literacy program for Imagine Learning, 1.5 Million Dollars. ●Help pass landmark legislation, to expunge ex-offenders, specific to Marijuana and Non-Violent convictions. ●Expanded Educare and its ability to provide service, by leveraging a million dollars in state appropriation FY2020. ●Supported COVID-19 response funding for the City of Flint, just under 5 Million dollars.
